I’m an admitted freak about laundry. I want my whites as white as possible. I want garments looking crisp and fresh, not used and worn. Most importantly, I want clothes to be washed and dried and to come out clean.
Since I’m voluntarily responsible for the laundry for two toddlers, my husband and myself, I have a lot of practice at getting stains out. While I love my OxiClean presoak method, sometimes I don’t have the time to mix up a solution, soak clothes for the 12-24 hours that works best, then send the garments through a full wash and dry cycle.
I’m loving the new Shout Free Stain Remover when I want to pretreat just a few stained items that are all ready to be washed with a full load of laundry. It’s perfect for spot-treating obvious stains, and it’s made for removing stains from colorfast washables. My husband spilled coffee one morning on a plain white t-shirt. I found the stain as I was sorting laundry. I usually keep all my whites in separate loads (laundry freak, remember?), but I wanted to see how the stain fared with just a spray of Shout Free and a regular wash cycle on cold.
Here’s a Before and After of the shirt:
You have my apologies for my lack of photography and photo editing skills. I took the photos in two different locations, and the shirt looks like it’s two different colors! It’s not
I think it worked great to get the coffee stain out! Since then, I’ve also used it on fresh grease stains, food stains and various drink splotches. Shout Free has worked to get all those stains out.
I do want to note that I tried it on a set-in ring-around-the-collar stain and a major grease stain from a huge splash of melted butter on a beloved shirt that I’ve tried and tried to clean. I didn’t have the same luck as I did with the shirt above. I know that perspiration and oil stains are notoriously tough, so I’ll be sticking to my time-consuming presoak process to work on the worst of the stains that hit my hamper!
One of the aspects of Shout Free that I can truly get behind is that doesn’t contain any dyes, fragrance, bleach or phosphorous and it’s made from 99% natural ingredients. It also uses plant-based, biodegradable cleaners. As much as I’d like for there to be one, I truly don’t think there’s a chemical-free way to get stains out of clothes, so Shout Free seems like the next-best thing!

My sister and I had an Easy-Bake Oven in the ’80s. I remember peeking inside the little cavity and being almost blinded by that 100-watt bulb that actually burned hot enough to cook the little cakes and cookies we made.
