Walgreens Prescription Savings Club Offer

This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

If you’ve been shopping at almost any store with a pharmacy lately, you’ve likely seen signs and posters mentioning Express Scripts.

What is Express Scripts? Express Scripts acts as a middleman between pharmacies (like Walgreens), employers and health plans to work out the rates the employers and health plans pay for prescriptions and other health services. As you can imagine, this affects the prices that insured consumers end up paying. Since Express Scripts is essentially a healthcare “middleman” most payers don’t see the rates that Express Scripts pays the pharmacies. The payers only know what they pay to Express Scripts.

Walgreens and Express Script participated in ongoing negotiations for a full year to determine the rates for 2012. Unfortunately, those negotiations were unsuccessful, and, as of January 1st, 2012, Walgreens is no longer a part of Express Scripts’ pharmacy provider network.  That includes all Duane Reade pharmacies in the New York City area and ALL Walgreens pharmacies nationwide.

It’s a bit upsetting to think of how disrupting this is for many longtime Walgreens pharmacy customers. Even worse, the cost to the patient is not being reduced for their trouble.

To ease the burden for those affected by this contract change, Walgreens is offering a discounted rate for the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club. One $10 membership covers everyone in your immediate family, including a spouse, dependents 22 and younger and pets for a full year. Individuals also have the option to join for just $5.

Benefits of the Walgreens Prescription Saving Club include:

  • Savings on more than 8,000 brand-name and all generic medications
  • Discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers and diabetic supplies
  • Bonuses when you purchase Walgreens brand products and photo finishing services

This promotional pricing is being offered only for a limited time for new memberships and renewals from January 1 to January 31, 2012.

Stay updated on new developments by liking Walgreens on Facebook and following Walgreens on Twitter.

Amazon’s Best Diaper Deals, Training Pants Bargains & gDiapers Deals w/ Free Shipping!

baby deals

I’m happy to report that prices are pretty much unchanged from last week’s diaper deal roundup. Use those Amazon diaper coupons while you can; we never know when they’re going to go away!

If you’re having trouble seeing the couponsfollow the directions found here to try to get all available Amazon coupons to show up on their respective pages.

Due to Amazon’s Amazon Mom discount change, prices on almost all diapers and wipes have increased. Luckily, there are still deals to be found – especially in those basic diaper styles.

Keep these points in mind to get the best diaper and baby deals from Amazon:

  • Sign up for Amazon Mom. It’s FREE and you’re automatically eligible for discounted diapers, wipes and more! Prices listed below assume that you’re enrolled in the Amazon Mom program.
  • Order with Subscribe & Save. Subscribe & Save gives you an additional discount and free shipping when you order your diapers. You’re under no obligation when you place your order this way; you just need to log into your Amazon account and cancel the option after your order ships. The prices below also assume that you’re placing your order with Subscribe & Save.
  • Look at the cost per diaper. If you consider that you’re going to buy thousands of diapers, it helps to have a set “buy price” to help you  spend the least amount of money for the long-term. My basic rule is: $0.18 or less per diaper is a “buy” price, but paying $0.10 or less per diaper is a “must buy” diaper deal!
  • Use Amazon promo codes if you have them. In the past, a few different baby magazines included Amazon promo codes for diapers and other baby deals. It’s in your best interest to sign up for free subscriptions to Baby TalkAmerican Baby and Parents magazines. That way, you’ll have coupons in your hand if they’re included in an issue that lands in your mailbox. There aren’t any current issues that have Amazon coupon codes included, but we shouldn’t rule them out for future mailings.
  • Package Size Matters. As diaper sizes go up, the number of diapers per pack goes down. That means the cost per diaper will increase with the size. Keep in mind that I’m listing the best price for each brand, so the corresponding size might not be the one you’re looking for. Don’t forget that you can buy bigger sizes before you need them if the price is right.

Items in bold indicate a price drop from last week’s diaper deals.

Note: if you’re shopping for Pampers or Huggies, be sure to “clip” that Amazon coupon on the individual product page to save an additional $1 or $2 on select diapers and training pants!

Here are the best diaper deals I’m seeing:

Basic Diaper Styles

Premium Diapers

Sensitive Diapers

  • None this week!

Eco-Friendly or Green Disposable Diapers

gDiapers Deals

Training Pants & Extra-Absorbency Diapers

Popular Brands over $0.18 per Diaper
