Moms Returning to School: Consider American Public University

Most of you know that I recently started my transition to being a stay-at-home-mom. Before that, I worked in Finance at Target Corporation’s corporate headquarters in Minneapolis for nearly 8 years. Over that time, I thought over and over again about going back to school. I have a bachelor’s degree in finance, but I often wondered if another career would suit me better. It’s not that I didn’t like what I was doing, it’s just that there’s always the possibility of something better!

At the same time, I also wondered if I should pursue getting a master’s degree. While I was still employed, a lot of my co-workers who were around my age were working on getting their MBAs, and there was nothing that put you on a faster track to success in the corporate environment I was working in!

After I felt established in my accounting and finance career, my husband and I decided to have children. After one baby and then another right away, we were buy handling “two under two” and there wasn’t time to even think about higher education. Now, I’m not working, but the education factor is still in the back of my mind. I love taking classes and learning, and I would truly enjoy pursuing additional collegiate education at some point in the future.

American Public University offers mothers a reason to get excited about education. Through their diverse, 100% online curriculum, moms can attend more than 100 degree programs tailored to their own schedules, whether that means after bedtime or even during soccer practice. By providing classes that starts on a monthly rather than semester or quarterly basis, APU offers greater flexibility than most schools. Plus, APU makes it easier to achieve your educational goals with some of the lowest tuition rates in the country: undergrad classes cost just $750 for a 3-credit course.

In addition to undergraduate degree offerings, American Public University also offers a wide variety of graduate programs for those looking for advanced degrees. Over a lifetime, the typical bachelor’s degree holder can expect to earn an average of $800,000 more than a high school grad, while a graduate who holds a higher degree can expect to make over $1,000,000 more. Additionally, a 2008 National Survey of Student Engagement survey found that 97% of enrolled senior-level at APU had a very favorable view of the university and would choose APU again.
