Did you know that much of a child’s brain development happens after birth? I love reading about infant development, milestones and how to nurture my babies’ ever-expanding capabilities, so I love the idea of the BrainInsights Early Brain Development activity cards!
BrainInsights Activity Cards Review:
BrainInsights sent me four sets of activity cards:
- Love Your Baby: making connections in the first year
- Fun While I’m One: making connections in the second year
- More to Do While I am Two: making connections with your two year old
- Play With Me While I am Three: making connections with your three year old
- Let’s Learn More While I am Four: making connections with your four year olds
My daughter, Piper, is 6 months old and my son, Haiden, is 18 months old, so I ripped into the Love Your Baby and Fun While I’m One sets right away. The Love Your Baby set focuses on sensory stimulation, which a big emphasis on touch. I took several Early Childhood classes with Haiden when he was an infant, and I found that I learned a lot of the information the cards in the classes I took. This is a good thing! It was great to refresh the information I had learned, and also get some new ideas on how to cuddle and play with Piper. The cards also encouraged me to read baby’s moods and find an activity that worked well for her.
After looking through the infant cards and trying out a few new activities, I looked at the Fun While I’m One set. I really enjoyed reading these cards then doing some of the suggestions with Haiden. While these cards are very basic in their activities, they definitely reminded me how many ways there are to entertain a toddler! Some days, I need all the help I can get. In fact, the next day, Haiden definitely needed some entertainment. I flipped through the cards and found an idea: bubbles! This was so easy. I ran downstairs to get a bottle of bubble solution that I had bought last summer and got started. Haiden loved it and it kept us busy for a long time!
I didn’t use the sets for two, three and four year olds because my kids aren’t big enough. I did open up the packages and take a look at the cards, and they’re very similar to the first two that I did. You can bet I’ll be using them once my little ones are big enough!
One of the best things about the cards is that they not only tell you what to do, they also tell you why you should do it! Just read the activity on one side of the card, then flip it over to get an understanding of how you’re helping your little one’s brain development. This definitely fulfills my need for knowledge and I love knowing the reasons behind the suggestions.
